Lucy Activewear Review Workout Clothing

In the past, representatives from the running and fitness-related clothing company Lucy Activewear contacted me about partnering for a Lucy Activewear Review. As part of that experience I reviewed a pair of their leggings.

The clothing line was designed for both runners and yogis alike. The company was acquired by The North Face in early 2018, however, many athletes still enjoy purchasing and wearing Lucy clothing. The clothing is for sale today on apps such as Poshmark.

About Lucy Activewear

Lucy Activewear is high-quality athletic clothing for women, including extended sizes (including pants in short, regular and tall sizes) and maternity. Their clothing is great for runners, yogis and for everyday casual wear.

My Lucy Activewear items have lasted for years and are still in amazing shape. In addition to the Lucy Leggings (which I will share about in detail below) I personally ended up buying and owning other Lucy Activewear clothing items over the years after writing this review.

Those purchases included a longsleeve outdoor running top, a second pair of running pants, several yoga crops and tank tops. My experience has been that their clothing is of very high quality, long lasting and durable.

What Happened to Lucy Activewear?

Lucy Acquired by The North Face

I was sad to hear of the Lucy Activewear closing. This was announced in December 2017. I let my readers know about this via email as Lucy Activewear held a massive going out of business sale with 30 percent off their remaining inventory.

All of their remaining stores closed in January 2018. At that time The North Face was carrying Lucy Activewear items on their website. As of 2020, it appeared the brand had totally been absorbed by The North Face, including names of some of the then popular Lucy clothing items.

Lucy Activewear was founded in 1999 and prior to their closing the company had roughly 60 stores nationwide and a robust online presence. Most of their garments have either the Lucy name on the garment itself or a thick embroidered bright orange tab.

Where to Buy Lucy Activewear

That’s the bad news. However, the good news is if you are a Lucy fan, or new to this brand, you can still buy their clothing online using apps such as Poshmark.

There are many new with tag Lucy items for sale on Poshmark (usually called deadstock such as items that were recently found or in someone’s closet and never worn!) and many gently used secondhand garments. You can usually find the Lucy garment based on the original name of the item.

I can personally attest Lucy still has a strong following with some shoppers wanting to purchase very specific items. As I mentioned the Lucy items I have owned all were durable and very good quality.

Because shoppers still want Lucy clothing I wanted to update this post and review. This review has been a popular post on my blog for many years because of the strong following Lucy clothing has.

Lucy Activewear Mission

Before the company acquisition, I saved some information from their website about their products:

“Yoga. Training. Running. Explore. Whatever activity you choose, lucy wants you to look good and feel good. We believe fitness should be stylish so we design workout clothes — yoga pants and yoga tops, sports bras, running apparel, hoodies, skirts and dresses — to support your active lifestyle. Women live in lucy all day long. We make workout clothes with your whole life in mind.”

Lucy Cut for Me Legging

I was very impressed with the quality of the item I was sent to try out as part of the Lucy Activewear review. I received the Lucy Cut for Me Legging. Here’s the description from their website about that item:

“The Cut For Me Legging features flat-locked seams and trim lines for you to cut the legging to your specific leg length — plus the slimming, moisture-wicking strength of lucy powermax™ fabric. Form fitting for peak performance and muscle support; ideal for high-intensity activities.”

Style

Here you can see me wearing one of my yoga tops along with the Lucy Legging in the photos. I had no complaints here. During my Lucy Activewear review, I found the Lucy Cut for Me Leggings to be both stylish and trendy. In fact the legging was such a cut that it remained in style for many years.

The purple accent on the ankles was a great addition too. I wore these pants for both yoga and outdoor running. I also liked the purple on the waistband which was a nice touch. The leg had the bright orange Lucy embroidered logo and then back of the upper waistband had the Lucy logo as well. Like many Lucy clothing items, the seams are flatlock to reduce chafing.

Fit/Comfort

The waistband is double thick and even includes a small pocket. I found the extra thickness gave me support on the top and no muffin top either! A win-win. This pant (along with that thick waistband) also fit well on me after having my baby too.

Being petite, I was was worried the pants might be too long for me. I did end up cutting them as short as they go, but as you can see in the photo they still fit me. I have since learned that some petite women routinely cut their leggings or Lucy yoga pants.

I’ve never done this except for with this Lucy pant which was designed to be cut. Here you can see what the ankle of the pant looks like after being cut. I think the pant paired well with my purple top too! I wore these in a size small and they fit true to size for me in Lucy sportswear.

Function/Quality

I wore and washed these pants from the Lucy athletic wear line many times after I received them and they have held up really well through cold water washings with sport detergent. I wondered if the cuffs would fray after cutting them with scissors, but they did not.

As I mentioned at the beginning of my Lucy brand clothing blog post, I received this pant in 2012 and I was still wearing the pant after having my baby in 2015. Lucy fitness clothing lasts a long time.  The pants held up well for more than four years and I ran in them for many races. The thick fabric was great for outdoor running!

The inner thigh area of the pant did end up pilling slightly for me but not bad for so much wear. I would 100 percent buy these pants again. Also the cuffs never unraveled after being cut.

Overall

I was very pleased with the Lucy Activewear product I was sent to try for a Lucy Activewear review. I definitely kept their clothing line in mind for future purchases, especially during their sales and ended up purchasing several more items. The original full retail on these pants was $79.

  1. You are already on my blog roll under the category of runners but i need to move you to the category of “Cleveland RUnners” haven’t done that since you moved

  2. I would LOVE to try the running gloves! I realized last Saturday when it was actually cold that my gloves aren’t doing a good job this year, my fingers were numb by the time my run was finished!
