Many moons ago I wrote out how I planted a small potted veggie garden on our balcony. Well, about two weeks ago the first fruits of my labor appeared – two small cherry tomatoes. In all I have eaten about five cherry tomatoes off the plants, until Friday, when the mother of all cherry tomatoes was ready to be picked. First a quick rewind on workouts:

THURSDAY: 60 minutes upper body/arms
FRIDAY: REST day
SATURDAY: 3.1 mile race

Woohoo! Look at that “cherry” tomato!

The cause for celebration meant making yet another homemade pizza for dinner Friday night. Of course, the pizza was also great fueling for Saturday’s 5K race (more about that debacle tomorrow). Pizza has suddenly become my favorite meal to cook.

I think it’s because I learned how to make a wheat crust from scratch, and I’ve learned to anticipate seeing the dough rise, which spells cooking success every time. I topped this pie with muenster cheese, organic sauce from Meijer, turkey pepperoni sausage and of course – the tomato.

The wheat crust is so filling, two slices was enough. We ate the leftovers for lunch Saturday.

The other big weekend hit – iced tea. I am still loving this summertime refreshing drink. Green tea at work, black tea at home. What have been the “big hits” in your diet lately?

How does your garden grow?

we planted tomatoes for the first time this year and they are not doing much yet. i’m scared that we waited too long to stake them when they started growing bigger.

our herb garden is rocking. my basil plant is dying to be turned into pesto! 🙂

pizza is pretty much my all-time favorite food. yum! 😉

Ever since I started making my own crust I’ve grown to love pizza even more! There is no comparison with homemade vs. fast food type pizza!

I’m amazed at that tomato! We have had quite the harvest this summer off my plants but not one can compare in size. I’ve been having fun trying to come up with different ways to cook with them. I made a Corn, Crab and Avocado salad this weekend that was too good.

Finally some acknowledgement on the size of the tomato! LOL

I think everyone glazed over this post, thinking it was a regular tomato.

The last three years, I kept a small garden where I live, but I chose not to this year because I wasn’t sure when I’d be moving. I actually miss NOT having fresh veggies to pick. My fiance and I hope to have a few pots on our deck for next summer, mostly of fresh herbs and tomatoes.

I’ve been having a hard time staying away from chocolate (my usual culprit) and refined carbs.

I get a farm share in the summer, so I am drowning in fresh organic vegetables. Right now it is the season for cucumbers, squash, and leafy greens (kale and chard). Tomatoes haven’t hit yet but when they do…oh boy!

I don’t have any vegetables of my own growing in my yard but I maintain an herb garden. I love fresh herbs.
