Timex Ironman Sleek 50 Watch Review

In the past I wrote about my search for a new running watch. I’m happy to report I found a runner watch that has worked great long-term and I’m talking about it in this Timex Ironman Sleek 50 Watch review.

Prior to my purchase I solicited input from readers and they pointed out a variety of features to look for in a watch for runners. I used this feedback along with my own research and product reviews to select my running watch.

Running Watch Information

I purchased the Timex Ironman Sleek 50 Classic Mid-Size Watch in light purple. The watch comes in a variety of colors. It’s water resistant and affordable. You do not need to spend a fortune on a running watch, especially if you are looking for basic tried and true features.

GPS watches are also popular for running and became popular about a decade ago. This is an entirely different type of watch. If you need the GPS ability in a watch, I have a separate post about accuracy of GPS watches and features to look into.

Heres’s some information below directly from the manufacture of this Timex Running Watch. It’s a brief description of what features my Timex Watch has along with function and design:

“Quartz movement. Strong mineral crystal protects dial from scratches and scrapes. Case diameter measures 34 mm. Resin case; digital-gray dial; day-date-and-month functions. Water-resistant to 330 feet (100 M).” – source

Pros

I really like the Timex Ironman Sleek 50 Classic Mid-Size Watch. I have learned to use the interval timer to set up a walk/run timer for my long runs. The design is stylish and the screen is easy to read and it makes me feel like a bit more of a professional athlete when I wear it.

I also like that it is water resistant which is helpful for sweat. While this watch has the name Ironman in it, you do not have to run Ironman races to use this watch. I found it works great for recreational running and racing. I have used the watch while running my training runs, along with races from 5K up to half-marathon.

Cons

My only complaints with this watch for runners have been the strap is a bit long. I have it on almost the smallest notch, however I do have small wrists. Also I am having issues with the whole “lap counter” feature that I desired. The instructions that come with the watch are long and printed on a large sheet of paper.

I would highly advise you do not lose the instructions. It took me some time to figure out the settings and how to program the watch in the way i would like.

The way it seems to me when I press “lap/set” it will set a lap based on time, not distance. My goal was to press the lap button each time I ran a mile (on a marked trail) to in a way keep track of my pace while running each mile.

In Summary

This is a good running watch to consider. It has worked well for me for many years. This Timex Running Watch is affordable, comes in many colors and has all the basic features in a running watch. It’s a great option if you do not want or need a GPS watch and in particular if you are a new runner.

Do you use a running watch? Why or why not?

  1. Yay for the new watch. Amazon is the best. That's where I got my timex and my Garmin. I had the same exact trouble trying to figure it out and I can't remember how I set it. Sorry I can't help.
