Counting 8 Miles
I wish I could say my first 8-miler in nearly three months was something glorious, but weather had something to be gained. It was in the 40s with an 18-mph wind and cloudy skies almost the whole time. I bundled up in capri pants and my 180s long sleeve thermal top. I wore a Bondi Band around my ears for warmth and a pair of thin gloves. I used the Garmin to track my distance through a local metropark.
I went into this knowing it would not be fantastic. But I had a resolve to finish. I chose an out and back route so that there was no way of bailing on my mileage. I brought along three Clif Shot BLOKS and had them at the halfway point. I was rather dehydrated though due to absolutely no water fountains along the way.
I was happy my IT band played pretty nice. In the past, my 8-milers have been my threshold — where the IT really starts to hurt. It only started to bother me after about 7.5 miles and even then it was still very manageable. My left knee felt a little off from time to time but no real issues. I came home and did a wall sit for about 20 minutes and actually was on my feet buying groceries and cooking much of the day and my legs felt pretty good!
Vegetable & Beef Soup – From Betty Crocker’s Cookbook
Sunday’s dinner was my first ever vegetable and beef soup. I felt like a real cook. I mean I bought the actual real vegetables — celery, carrots by the stalk and potatoes. No frozen vegetables here! And this was actually the first time I have ever cooked beef. Weird but true.
Homemade Wheat Bread with Rosemary
The side was my first ever yeast bread. I’ve been wanting to learn how to bake bread. Until now I had only baked a non-yeast loaf and had made yeast pizza dough. I made a Whole Wheat Loaf with Rosemary — two small loaves and I froze one. I topped each with oatmeal.
This brings me into my last point. As of Day 3 my cleanse challenge is “so so.” I made the exception of eating bread — but told myself it had to be homemade so there would be no sugar or preservatives in it. Then I obviously caved and had beef in this stew. Initially I planned to eat only chicken. Whatever on that.
I’m still coffee and sugar-free (don’t count the non-caffeine CLIF SHOT BLOKS).
