I decided to list the rest of my Jane Fonda VHS workout tapes on eBay. This comes after I listed and sold my four oldest tapes back in December. Sigh, goodbye Jane.
The sales are bittersweet for me because Jane Fonda workouts were one of the first I followed. I first discovered her tapes in high school. Of course at that time they were already old — from the mid 1980s to early 1990s. But the fact is, I haven’t used these tapes in years.
VHS is not dying — it’s dead. I really wish Jane would release all of these on DVD but so far she’s only released like two or three, which do not include my favorites. So with mixed feelings I decided to free up some space and sell these.
Outside of parting with Jane, I attended a challenging hot vinyasa practice Friday night at Yoga at the Force. This class all comes down to the instructor and she is hard core. It’s the kind of practice where you are angry while you are in class because it’s so hard.
You look around and realize half the class is in the child’s pose, and you are tempted to go there too. Sweat is dripping in your eyes because you forgot your towel and you are just counting the seconds until you get a break for a drink of water. I loved it!
I was sore the next day which I expected. But it was so worth it!
The rest of the weekend was spent running errands, including visiting our new tax guy. We also checked out two malls in Cleveland. I’d been to them before but it’s been a few years — to Legacy Village and Beachwood Place. Probably the best stop for me was Nordstrom Rack. I wanted to buy everything! We also checked out the Apple store as I’m hoping to buy a new laptop sometime this year. Don’t worry, I’m already an Apple user – just looking to upgrade.
The weekend also included some great eats. Saturday night I prepped a cheese plate for movie night. I think having mixed gourmet cheeses is becoming one of my new favorite treats. It’s so fun to try new ones from the cheese shop. This time we had a white New York cheddar and brie (again!)
Then we had family visit on Sunday so I prepared a colorful meal. We had sweet potato gnocchi, roasted asparagus and homemade breaded chicken (which the husband prepared).
It was all really good! Dessert was a very rich dark chocolate mousse.
This weekend while doing some spring cleaning and thinking about how I was not running, I came across an old friend. Well a few friends… Yes, indeed. The Jane Fonda collection.
This was how I got into working out in high school. Literally. As I was telling the husband Tuesday night to his disbelief, I could be found working out to one of Jane’s tape’s nearly every night of the week. I remember coming home from school — going directly to work for 4 hours — then coming home to have a workout with Jane. What a bum I’ve become now! Haha.
I don’t really remember how I first got into Jane Fonda’s workouts, but my mom and I would always go to garage sales and thrift shops. Along the way I purchased a tape, loved it, and my fondness for Fonda grew. I then went on to collect almost all her tapes. The 1980s tapes remain my favorites. My last “score” was purchasing her 1982 original workout on VHS at Goodwill. That’s 29 years old if you are counting!
So Tuesday night I was feeling much better and opted to do some easier exercise — not at the gym. I selected Jane’s “Start Up” workout, an easy-going 25-minute tape to start or end your day. All my workout memories from high school began flooding back. At some point I stowed these tapes away. I opted to use the student recreation center in college. Then when I got my first job after graduation I joined the gym. When I moved to Fort Wayne I transferred my gym membership.
Somewhere along the way I forgot about my old tapes. I forgot about my dates with Jane. It feels good to be back! And I have another great X-Train alternative. Now if only these could be released on DVD! I must be about the only person in America with a VHS player still!
Please note Jane did release two workouts on DVD, which I purchased, however they are from the 1990s. None of her 1980s workouts (the best ones!) have been released on DVD.
